Big-Bag Transloading Services | SMIALA Poland
Big-bag to silo trailer transloading, PE/PP granulate repackaging, warehousing up to 2000 big-bags. 200 t/day. ISO 9001:2015. Chorula, Poland.

In Brief
SMIALA offers six transloading services for dry bulk materials in all common packaging formats: big-bag, octabin, 25 kg bags, and silo trailers. All transfers are documented under ISO 9001:2015. Throughput: 200 t/day. Warehouse: 2000 big-bags. Operator: PHS Magnum Chorula.
Service 1: Big-Bag → Silo Trailer
The most common operation at SMIALA. A big-bag (FIBC, 500–2000 kg) is lifted by forklift or overhead crane above the silo trailer’s filling inlet and emptied by gravity. No pneumatic conveying.
Why gravity matters for polymer granulates:
Pneumatic conveying subjects granulate to high-velocity airflow, which causes fractionation (separation of fines from coarse particles), electrostatic charging, and potential contamination from compressor oil or moisture. For technical polymers such as PE and PP, these effects can alter the material’s melt flow index, bulk density uniformity, and surface cleanliness — all of which affect production quality at the receiving factory.
Gravity transloading at SMIALA eliminates all these risks.
Documentation per transload: gross and net weight, big-bag serial numbers, trailer registration, driver data, date and time. ISO 9001:2015 — archived.
Throughput: up to 200 t/day. Silo trailer capacity: 35–65 m³ (approximately 20–40 big-bags per trailer depending on bulk density).
Service 2: 25 kg Bags → Silo Trailer
Palletised 25 kg woven bags are cut and emptied into a hopper that discharges by gravity into the silo trailer. Suitable for:
- Polymer producers who supply in bagged form and need to consolidate for bulk transport
- Customers receiving pallet-format material who need to convert to bulk for a silo-fed production line
Rate: up to 80 t/day. Dust extraction on the cutting/emptying station.
Service 3: Octabin → Silo Trailer
Octabins (rigid cardboard intermediate bulk containers, typically 200–1200 kg) are tipped or cut at the discharge station and emptied into the trailer inlet. Used by producers and distributors shipping in octabin format.
Full details on octabin handling: Octabin Unloading Guide.
Service 4: Silo Trailer → Big-Bag
Reverse flow: bulk material from a silo trailer is discharged into big-bags on a filling scale. Each big-bag is weighed and sealed. Used when:
- A factory receives raw material in bulk and needs to repackage for intermediate storage or delivery to sub-suppliers
- An importer re-exports material in big-bag format
Capacity: up to 50 t/day. Big-bag weights from 500 to 2000 kg.
Service 5: Big-Bag Warehousing
Dry enclosed warehouse for up to 2000 big-bags simultaneously. Suitable for buffer storage between container arrival and silo trailer dispatch.
| Parameter | Value |
|---|---|
| Capacity | 2000 big-bags |
| Temperature | 5–25°C |
| Humidity | < 60% |
| Rotation | FIFO |
| Stacking | up to 3 layers (subject to bag SWL) |
| Response time | 2–4 hours from dispatch order |

Service 6: Trial Transloading Run
For new customers and for materials we have not handled before (atypical regrinds, hygroscopic materials, mineral feedstocks with specific characteristics), we offer 1–2 trial transloading runs before committing to a full-volume contract.
Why a trial run:
- Verify how the material behaves in our infrastructure (climate-controlled hall, screen, silo trailer parameters)
- Assess operator time for the specific packaging format
- Check whether the material needs antistatic agents or a special big-bag cutting procedure
- Adjust the initial quote based on real-world transloading conditions — before the customer commits to a framework agreement
- Build ISO 9001:2015 documentation for the product (batch number, parameters, time)
How it works:
The customer sends us 1–2 containers (or an equivalent batch of big-bags). We carry out a full transloading run under the standard procedure with full documentation. After the trial runs we deliver a report: operator time, any technical issues, a proposed rate for higher volumes.
The trial run is paid (a standard unit rate or individually agreed), but gives both sides real data for long-term contract negotiations — instead of estimates based on documentation alone.
Who it’s for: granulate distributors introducing a new grade, Asian importers testing Polish logistics, engineering-material producers evaluating a long-term partnership.
Service 7: European Silo Trailer Transport
After transloading at SMIALA, the silo trailer can proceed directly to the customer’s factory anywhere in Europe. PHS Magnum Chorula operates 31 silo trailers (~60 m³, 27 t payload).
Typical delivery times from Chorula:
- DE (Munich, Frankfurt, Hamburg): 8–14 hours
- CZ (Prague, Brno): 3–5 hours
- AT (Vienna, Linz): 5–8 hours
- SK (Bratislava, Košice): 4–6 hours
- PL (Warsaw, Wrocław, Łódź): 2–5 hours
