Which polymer producers does SMIALA have experience handling?
SMIALA’s experience spans the major European and Asian polymer producers whose granulate moves through Central Europe by silo trailer. The terminal has processed material from LG Chem, Borealis, Synthos and Orlen — four producers with different quality requirements, different big-bag formats and different documentation expectations. Meeting each producer’s standards from day one requires preparation. We have done that preparation.
W skrócie
SMIALA has hands-on experience with LG Chem, Borealis, Synthos and Orlen polymer grades — from container intake procedures to factory delivery documentation. Each producer has specific quality requirements that we know and apply without a learning curve on your first shipment. ISO 9001:2015 batch traceability and silo cleaning certification satisfy corporate procurement requirements at each of these companies.
LG Chem (South Korea)
LG Chem is one of South Korea’s largest chemical companies and one of the world’s major PE/PP producers. From plants in Daesan and Yeosu, LG Chem ships PE and PP granulate to European customers in sea containers loaded with big-bags.
What SMIALA provides for LG Chem cargo:
- Container intake aligned with LG Chem batch documentation — CoA numbers, big-bag sequences and batch traceability linked from port through SMIALA to factory delivery
- Grade separation — LG Chem ships multiple PE and PP grades in simultaneous container streams; SMIALA maintains separate warehouse zones per grade
- Silo cleaning certification — between LG Chem grades and when switching from LG Chem to other producers
- Transit documentation for Germany and Austria — CMR issued in German-language format on request; EUR.1 on request for Swiss customers
LG Chem’s European customers include compounders, film producers and pipe manufacturers in Germany, Austria, Czech Republic and Poland. From SMIALA, silo trailers reach German Bavaria in 5 hours and Frankfurt in 7 hours.
Borealis (Austria/Finland)
Borealis — headquartered in Vienna, with major production in Finland (Porvoo) and Belgium (Antwerp) — is Europe’s leading producer of polyolefins under the Borstar technology. Borealis grades for film, pipe, automotive and consumer applications are distributed across Europe, often via silo trailer.
What SMIALA provides for Borealis cargo:
- Cross-contamination prevention — Borstar PE grades are sensitive to MFI cross-contamination; SMIALA enforces strict batch zone separation
- Silo cleaning procedure — documented dry-air cleaning with certificate, required by Borealis for grade changes
- Supplier qualification documentation — ISO 9001:2015 certificate, audit rights, transloading protocol templates aligned with Borealis’s incoming goods documentation requirements
Borealis downstream customers — converters, compounders, pipe extruders — require batch traceability to the producer’s CoA. SMIALA’s ISO 9001:2015 system provides this chain without gaps.
Synthos (Poland)
Synthos, headquartered in Oświęcim, produces styrene-butadiene rubber (SBR), expanded polystyrene (EPS) and acrylic dispersions. Synthos ships in big-bags for customers who receive in silo trailers or bulk containers.
What SMIALA provides for Synthos cargo:
- Short-haul coordination — Oświęcim to Chorula is 70 km; rapid turnaround between Synthos production batches and factory deliveries
- EPS and rubber handling — SMIALA has experience with the different flow properties and big-bag formats used for EPS and SBR versus standard PE/PP
- Domestic Polish distribution — the PHS Magnum fleet covers Polish destinations directly
Orlen (Poland)
Orlen, Poland’s state energy company, produces polyethylene (HDPE, LLDPE) at the Płock complex — one of the largest chemical plants in Central Europe. Orlen PE granulate is sold to Polish and export customers.
What SMIALA provides for Orlen cargo:
- Płock to Chorula logistics — Płock is 290 km northeast of Chorula; big-bags from Orlen arrive by truck and are warehoused pending silo trailer dispatch
- Documentation for export customers — Orlen PE going to German or Austrian factories requires CMR and a SMIALA transloading protocol; we issue both
- Cross-certification — Orlen’s quality documentation includes Polish-language CoA; SMIALA issues accompanying English-language transloading protocols for international customers
Working with a new producer’s material for the first time
Before the first shipment of any new material, SMIALA’s intake procedure includes:
- Material data sheet review — flow properties, bulk density, specific handling requirements
- Big-bag format check — discharge valve type (butterfly, drawstring, spout), compatibility with loading station
- Documentation template alignment — matching our transloading protocol fields to the client’s goods receipt template
- Silo trailer specification check — ensuring the trailer dimensions are compatible with the grade’s flow angle and density
This preparation means the first container is handled with the same reliability as the hundredth.
