We describe it here as a model example of a mineral material transported by silo, because the principles of bulk-material physics — bulk density, hygroscopicity, compartment cleanliness — are common to cement and granulate alike, even though the consequences of ignoring them can differ. Cement is also one of the most mass-produced bulk materials in the world, so understanding its logistics organises the whole body of knowledge about bulk transport.</p>
