Why gravity matters for polymer quality
Standard PE/PP granulate for film extrusion, pipe extrusion, or injection moulding is a precision raw material. Its melt flow index (MFI), density, and particle distribution are certified at the factory. Pneumatic transloading can alter these parameters:
- Fractionation: fine particles travel further in the airstream than coarse; the silo trailer receives a non-homogeneous load
- Electrostatic charge: pipeline friction charges PE/PP granules; charged particles adhere to tank walls and resist full discharge at the converter
- Oil contamination: even well-maintained compressor systems can allow trace oil to reach the product
Gravity transloading introduces none of these risks. The granulate enters the silo trailer in exactly the condition it left the big-bag.
